Why you should vaccinate adults against human papillomavirus
  • The vaccine protects against two types of HPV that cause 70 percent of all cervical cancers; there were more than 11,000 U.S. cases of cervical cancer diagnosed in 2008.

  • There are more than six million new infections annually in the U.S., with nearly three out of four in females younger than age 24.

  • 80 percent of women will be infected with HPV by age 50.
